Las Vegas

These are some my snaps of Las Vegas. It is a very scenic place where else can you go and see New York, Venice, Egypt all in one stop. I do not like to gamble but Las Vegas has a lot to offer the traveler. The lights at night are beautiful and just amazing on the strip. The restaurants are wonderful too. The Paris has a great breakfast buffet, I would highly recommend this buffet.

Each hotel has some kind of free attraction and some for a fee. The MGM had lions,

Mirage had tigers and even dolphins, the Flamingo had some cool birds,

New York New York had a rollar coaster.

the Luxor had a King Tut museum

Bellagio had a cool fountain and a Botantical Conservatory,

Venetian had gondola ride on their canals,

Paris had the Eifel tower, Caesars palace had talking statues of the Roman Gods,

Treasure Island puts on a cool pirate show.

We stayed almost a week and two of the days we rented a car... one day we drove to the Grand Canyon and the other day to Zion and Bryce National Parks.  I think I should quit my day job and become a travel agent. I love to travel and we try to go somewhere different every year.

Skywatching from the ship.. Skywatch Friday

I was watched the skies a lot while we were on our cruise in July. Nine nights on a cruise ship we did see a lot of sunsets over the water.

On this photo I zoomed in a little closer. My header photo is even closer.

San Juan first stop on our cruise in July

This past July we took a cruise out of Baltimore, above is a shot of the bay after we went under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Our ports of call were San Juan, St Thomas, Samana  and Labadee.  The weather was great cruising down to San Juan but the weather in the harbor of San Juan was what I would call moody. There was a storm while we were trying to dock, so it took a while.

These are some shots from our ship.

A lot of colorful houses on the hillside.

The rain did stop in time for our tour of the city. This is a scene from a tour of the city, we made a quick stop at Fort San Cristobal. We had some great views of the city from the highest part of the fort. This fort is actually a National park and we were able to use our annual park pass.

The fort on the hill. There is iguana sitting in the grass. Can you see it?

A closeup of the iguana or maybe it is something else, there seemed to be lots of them here. I am posting a few for my camera critters this week. They were crawling all over the fort walls.

Back to our ship and on to our next port of St Thomas

Critters from the National Zoo in DC

My camera critters are from my last visit (actual visit was this past spring)  to the National Zoo in DC. The National Zoo is part of the Smithsonian Institution and admission is free but you have to pay for parking.

I posted this entry as my Scenic Sunday but my actual post for Scenic Sunday is here Scenic Sunday Snow geese

I do not know for sure but I think Zoo's around the country are having trouble with funding in these hard times and I am sure they would appreciate any donations here is their website if you would like to check it out. Their website also has cool webcams. You can watch the Panda Bears, Organutans and some of their other animals.

Friends of the National Zoo

It is a big zoo and you can pick up a map which helps a lot in finding all the animals and your way around the zoo.

We were lucky to visit in the spring and see some baby animals. One of the coolest babies was the baby Gorilla with its Mom.

The Elephants are one of my all time favorite zoo animals.

The monkeys are always fun to see too.

The Panda bears are one of the National Zoo's main attractions. There is always a crowd of people around the Panda bears. The Panda bear is also my favorite animal at the National Zoo.

The Hippo, a closeup of the huge mammal.

One of the female lions. Have you seen the latest video of the National Zoo's lion and the deer on youtube?

The Orangutans are cool to watch.

Seeing the Backside for Mosaic Monday

I love Yellowstone and one of the reasons is to see the wildlife.  Sometimes it can be difficult to actually get a photo of one of these animals. I tend to arrive just when the poor critter is tired of the paparazzi and is walking away. I love am an animal lover but not the kind that will chase the animal to get the photo. So I usually end up with the Backside of the animal as it is leaving the scene. So my Mosaic Monday is my Yellowstone critters as I saw them. These are my pictures and I am proud of them. LOL

PLease click on the picture to see a better image.

But like Ansel Adams quote "Sometimes I do get to places just when God's ready to have somebody click the shutter".

To see more wonderful Mosaic please visit Mary at Mosaic Monday , Little Red House

More scenes from Yellowstone

I believe Yellowstone is one of the most scenic places I have ever been. It is a very photogenic park.
These are two of my favorite scenes. The first two photos are from two different trips to Yellowstone. I tried to recreate the first shot because I love it so but the steam just wasn't around the second time. One is of  a stranger and the second is my hubby sitting on a bench, the sky and colors are amazing.
